Our History
Founded in 1895, King Street Baptist Church (formerly Preston Baptist Church) has been a cornerstone of faith and community in Cambridge for over a century. What began as a small gathering of 15 charter members in the home of Mr. and Mrs. B.W. Ziemann has grown into a vibrant congregation with deep roots in the local community.
In its early years, the church was supported by nearby pastors and student ministers, meeting in borrowed spaces until land was purchased at the corner of King and Dover in 1905. With the help of faithful members and generous donors, the original sanctuary was built in 1906—largely by volunteer hands.
Throughout its history, King Street Baptist has been marked by a heart for missions, evangelism, and community outreach. From impactful evangelistic services and growing youth programs, to the development of Sunday School facilities and daily vacation Bible schools, the church has always aimed to serve people of all ages with the message of Jesus.
Today, King Street Baptist continues to build on the foundation laid more than 125 years ago—sharing God’s love, building strong community, and remaining a place where lives are transformed by grace.
What we believe
This Church accepts the Holy Bible as its authority in all matters of faith and practice. Our understanding of Christian truth as contained in the Bible is in essential accord with the affiliated Baptist churches, but we have no statement of creed apart from the New Testament.
